Since it worked out that I was the last one to do a story post, I didn't want to do another one, so I'm just taking a free week this week. The rest of y'all can do whatever you want. :)
(Also, I wasn't sure if we were going to do Sarah's suggestion of listing off options for directions the story could take; if anyone wants that just let me know and I'll add some on my last post.)
It's actually been a while since our last free week, so I guess I do have some stuff to talk about. I finally started working. I got a job at the local community college working in their Employee Relations office, which deals with employee grievances, student complaints against employees, and bargaining with unions. I'm kind of disappointed about the whole thing, really. From what we talked about at the interview, they said it would be part photocopying/filing, part database work, and part research. I've been there slightly more than half the total time I'm hired for and so far it's been all photocopying/filing. I know that it makes sense to hire students to do that stuff, and I don't mind doing some of it, but after four straight weeks it's getting pretty old, and I'm upset that they misrepresented what the job was when they were hiring me. On the bright side, though, at least I'm getting paid, and have something to put on my resume, and have new people to be references. Not to mention a reason to leave the house on a regular basis.
Speaking of house, I'm going to be moving very soon, probably this weekend coming up. I'm reeeeeally excited about it. This is mostly because I'll be moving back in with my best friend/former roommate, who I've missed a lot this past year that we didn't live together, even though we did still hang out fairly regularly. Partly it's also because I don't really like two of the three people I currently live with, so I'm looking forward to getting away from them. It's not like we hate each other or anything, they just have some habits that I'm not crazy about... like slamming doors, or taking my food, or having their loud drunk friends over at 3 am, or not checking with the rest of the house before inviting someone to stay with us for two weeks. So, yeah, it will be nice to get out of here. Though I'm not really looking forward to the actual packing and moving and unpacking.
About a month ago now I volunteered at the Jazz Festival, which was so much fun. It's my favourite festival in the city, all the music is always so good and I love getting to be a part of it. Not to mention getting to see the shows for free in exchange for doing something as simple as selling tickets or emptying garbage cans. The two highlights of the festival for me were Mike Essoudry's Mash Potato Mashers, who put on a heck of a show, and Besh o droM, whose show ended up being the most massive dance party.
There was something else on my mental list of topics to discuss, but I seem to have forgotten what it was, so I guess I'm gonna wrap up there. Hope the rest of you are doing well!

Bleh.
Guys, I just don't want to write a blog post today. I mean, I do. I like blogging and all. But. Ugh. I just don't have it in me to write anything interesting right now.
Can I be whiny, just for a second? Exams are really soon. And law school exams are really scary and I don't want to do them and they make me so nervous that I've just been avoiding thinking about them, which means I've been avoiding studying for them but then I have more to do in less time and it just gets worse and worse and right now I'm so stressed out that I've just felt nauseous all day and I kind of want to just call my mom and cry about it. I am a big baby.
Okay. Um. Happier topics. I've been doing NaNoWriMo this year. I haven't done it since... 2005? That was a really long time ago. It's been a little bit stressful, but also a lot of fun. I've still got just under 4000 words left to write in the next 26 hours and 40 minutes, but that is totally doable. The problem is that I skipped the 'boring' parts earlier because I was really excited to write the ending but now I've finished it so I have to go back and fill in the parts where I'm not entirely sure what's happening and I don't have a whole lot of motivation to write it... but I can't just give up at 46082 words.
Also I joined a youtube collab channel called TransCanadaVloggers. I'm both excited and nervous about it. We just started his week, and I haven't posted my first video yet, but I already filmed and edited it and stuff and videos are scary and weird. But pushing myself outside my comfort zone is good, right? Right.
Anyway. Um. I guess that's it. Sorry.

This post is boring.
So I'm going to follow Sarah's lead and write about what I've been up to lately. Unfortunately for you guys, that means this post is going to be incredibly boring, because all I've really been up to lately is school work. It's end of term here, so this week is insane with tests and exams and papers and things.
Mostly what I've been working on is my honours thesis, which is about missionary work in seventeenth-century New France. I'm looking at how improvements to the methods of communication between the missionaries and the indigenous peoples were related to increases in the amount of conflict between the two groups (because better communication = more successful conversion/assimilation = more sources of conflict). It's actually a really interesting subject, but I've been working on it for eight months now, and I'm just bored of it at this point. It didn't help that my main source were the Jesuit Relations, which are literally tens of thousands of pages long, which I had to slog through.
Fortunately, I'm almost finished! The final version is due on Friday, so I'm into final edits at this point. Currently I'm working on re-writing the conclusion, where I look at how themes of communication and violence continued into the present day. It's sort of brutal because conclusions are my least favourite parts of papers, and editing is my least favourite step of the process, so editing the conclusion is a double-whammy of things I dislike. But, once I get through it, I've just got to edit for clarity, style, and grammar, and I'll be done! I'm really excited not to have to work on it any more, but also to be able to say that I've completed a real, serious piece of academic work.
Anyway, so that's what I'm doing right now. Once I get through my thesis, I've just got a few exams, one more paper to write, and then my thesis defence (ugh, I don't even want to think about that part), and then I'll be done for the year and hopefully will have exciting summery adventures to tell you guys about instead of writing awful posts like this. I promise to never write about school work ever again, okay?
